Keeping Your Boat Clean: Part 1

Keeping Your Boat Clean

While some may find it more enjoyable than others, maintaining a clean boat will help retain value in the long run. We will be exploring several products we have personal experience with and are known to be effective. When it comes time to re-sell, full detail is usually recommended. We have compiled four products used by professional boat detailers which will ensure a clean boat.

1. Star Brite non-Skid Deck Cleaner

Keeping the deck of your boat clean is difficult. Muddy boat shoes, fish guts, mold, mildew, salt spray, spilled beer…none of these come up easy unless you’re using Star Brite Non-Skid Deck Cleaner. It’s biodegradable and safe on all fiberglass surfaces. All you have to do is spread Star Brite around on a wet deck, let it sit for a few minutes, and hose off! There is barely any scrubbing required. Your deck will be shiny, but not slippery. The best part is the UV inhibitors in the formula that will protect your deck from future weathering.

2. Boeshield Spray Lube

Do you hate those streaks of rust around the cleats of your boat? The brunt red stains can be a nightmare for boat owners. What about the corrosion around your engine and prop? Luckily there is an easy solution. Boeshield T-9 Waterproof Lubrication clings to metal for months and protects any surface from rust and corrosion. It penetrates deep, but is safe to use on paint, plastic, rubber, fiberglass, and vinyl. Spray it on before your first boat ride in the spring and forget about rust stains until the end of summer!

3. Flitz Metal Polish

If you’ve never used Boeshield, or a similar spray lubricant to keep the rust away, you may need Flitz Metal Polish. The strongest remover of tarnish and rust is non-toxic but highly concentrated. The polish is easily squeezed out of the tube and can be rubbed onto any metal surface to return it to its original shine. Flitz also powers through chalking, lime deposits, and tree sap. Try using it on railings, cleats, or any other metal surface on your vessel.

4. Orpine Wash and Wax

At the end of a great day on the water, when you pull your boat up on its trailer, give it a good wax with Orpine Wash and Wax. Biodegradable and safe to use on fiberglass, epoxy, paints, metal, wood, and plastic, this wax goes on smooth and sloughs away all the salt and grime. Good for windows and hardtops, Orpine prevents water potting and leaves you with a clear layer of protection. For a nice finish and a piney scent wax your boat with Orpine.
